Reflecting on Assessment

With the variety of students that I have within my classroom I have attempted to consider a variety of different ways to assessment. I am a strong believer in “Assessment for Learning” rather then “Assessment of Learning.”  Students should be involved in the assessment process whether through self refection or creating the assessment criteria. I believe that assessment drives practice and when assessment is done correctly it should provide teachers with critical information to inform their lesson designs.

Designing Assessment criteria starts early within any project. Assessment in my classroom starts with a classroom discussion and brainstorm of ideas.

From this brainstorm, as a class, my students and I create a checklist or rubric that is used as an assessment tool.
